Fast Diets Are They Safe?

Is there really such a thing as a fast diet? There are many reasons why you might want to lose weight quickly. Perhaps you have a wedding or special event coming up, or maybe you just want to finally shed that last few pounds. Fast weight loss is possible; however it’s not great for your health to lose weight quickly.

Fast diets are fine if you want short term weight loss, or only need to lose a small amount of weight. Unfortunately, diets that work in a quick amount of time often aren’t sustainable for long periods. It’s either just too hard to stick to the strict regime, or the diet is only designed to be effective for a short time. Another important consideration is that diets that work quickly can be bad for your health. Often they are missing essential nutrients that you need to stay healthy.

Fast Diets Do They Work?

There are many fast diets out there that work. Perhaps the most popular is the lemon detox diet. Most people only manage to stay on this strict regime of lemon-flavored water for less than seven days. If you have the will power to stick to the program, you will lose weight. Some of it will be fluid and muscle loss, but you will lose some fat as well. If you have a special event coming up, or only a little bit of weight to lose, then the Lemon Detox diet might be worth a try.

A juice fast is a good way to cleanse your body and lose some weight. By simply consuming fruit and vegetable juices only, you will shed pounds. Fruit and vegetable juices have a high amount of fiber, which means they take up a lot of energy to process. They use up some of their caloric value in digestion, which is why you lose weight on a juice fast.

The low carbohydrate diet also works fast. Many people shed between 5 and 10 pounds in their first week. By starving your body of carbohydrates, the body goes into ketosis; ketosis merely means that our body uses fat for energy. Ketones (also called burning your body fat for fuel. You can stay full easily on this diet, eating plenty of proteins like meat, cheese, and some vegetables. It can leave you a little limited at restaurants, and really, you probably don’t want to eat eggs for breakfast forever. However, a low carb diet can work if you just want to stay on it for a few weeks.

The most popular low carb diet is Atkins, but there are many other variations around. You can do the low carb diet on your own easily enough, just monitor your carbohydrate intake and don’t consume more than 20 grams a day. You can also buy ketosticks from a chemist, which will let you know when you are in ketosis.

Keeping Healthy on a Fast Diet

Doctors suggest that a safe amount of weigh to lose is one pound a week. Fast diets are rarely good for your health. They often deprive you of essential vitamins and minerals, which mean in the long-term your health will suffer. Depending on your current health, its very well to try a fast diet for a short amount of time, but it’s probably not the best way to achieve long lasting weight loss. If you’re going to try one of these diets, look after yourself by drinking plenty of water, and also taking a multi-vitamin.
